Naturalmat use only natural, sustainable and wherever possible, certified organic raw materials

Over two decades ago, keen sailors Mark Tremlett and Peter Tindall began experimenting with the use of breathable, natural fibres as an alternative to synthetics commonly used on boats that were not only notoriously warm, but largely uncomfortable. In 2000 Naturalmat was born, with an ethos of using only raw materials which were natural, sustainable and, wherever possible, certified organic.

Today Naturalmat provide mattresses for the nursery market, residences across the world, top eco-conscious hotel groups from Brooklyn to Bhutan and for some of the most famous yachts and superyachts currently out at sea.

They are in the same family boat yard (now solar-powered bed workshop) on the banks of the River Exe in Devon where they still make everything by hand, sticking to the same founding principles. They are still as fussy as ever in sourcing—buying wool solely from certified organic farms within a 50-mile radius of their HQ.

In April, Naturalmat were honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development — a badge they proudly wear as Naturalmat celebrates their 20th birthday in 2020.
