“We take care now, to make the world a better place to life in the future.”

LifestyleGarden, a brand of ScanCom International, are a group of outdoor lovers with sustainability close to their hearts. Growing under one of the leading innovators in outdoor furniture, LifestyleGarden has developed as a trusted and responsible company with the ethos of ‘Doing business the right way.’ With their closed-circle design principles at the heart of their products and a cornerstone of their vision, they offer their customers a more sustainable way of living.

Their circular thinking is embedded in everything they do, from manufacturing, production and material selection all the way through to their labour force and customer social responsibility. In fact, their focus on circular economies birthed an entirely new range founded on the principles of the best circular manufacturing solutions: DuraOcean® collection.

Planted was thrilled to promote this collection at our inaugural country event at Stourhead earlier this year. We love the ethos behind LifestyleGarden, so it was a great opportunity to showcase these ground-breaking products.

But what makes them so special?

DuraOcean, launched in collaboration with the Eden Project, represents the companies huge strides towards sustainability. The collection is made entirely from recycled maritime plastic and fishing ropes collected by communities along the rivers and coasts of South East Asia. Working with these communities, LifestyleGarden offers them premiums to help provide basic family necessities such as groceries, cooking fuel, school tuition, and health insurance, all in exchange for maritime plastic collection.

And with a rubbish truck sized amount of plastic dumped into our oceans every minute, killing marine life, reducing our water quality and contributing to the climate crisis, the collection can continue to support these communities for some time.

Not only have LifestyleGarden excelled in their corporate social responsibility with this collection, they have been creative and innovative enough to look at ocean plastic as a material with endless potential for product creation - using a resource that would have otherwise continued to damage our environment. With each chair reducing ocean waste by 3.5kg, and designed to be recycled at the end of its useful life, their impact will only become more evident overtime.

The DuraOcean’s beautiful blend of nature and plastic has shifted the way we look at furniture lifecycles. And with an - unfortunate - endless amount of maritime plastic to create with, the company is sure to go from strength to strength making quality products that last a lifetime.

Planted Community is excited to see how the DuraOcean collection develops and to continue promoting LifestyleGarden, so that we can all support the recovery of our oceans, and ultimately our planet.
